Solarmax 40 Report

June 28, 2005 - Today I picked up the main telescope (Coronado SolarMax40) from the postal outlet. I was excited as a kid with a toy truck. I read the instructions and followed the suggestions from Coronado to ensure no damage was done during transit, "telescope should be tested after delivery".

Why not! Let us do the test.

O' why doesn't it focus?

Perhaps it has to go back?

Perhaps a sturdier tripod would help, and also call Bruno that it is here. He will be wondering, will we have it for the Star Party?

Ha' not enough travel of the draw tube?

Excellent! what a sight. Why are there so many prominences all around the limb?

What are those twirly-around on the surface?

Call Bruno to share the excitement.

Within an hour David Griffiths came over to pick up the telescope and take it to Bruno's place so they can have their fun. I had enough excitement for one day.

At this time the only thing I can say is that it is stupendous. It is more that I had expected. Let us hope that during the Star Party, the Sun will shine.
