Regular monthly meetings

Regular monthly meetings are held the second Wednesday of every month (except July, August & November), starting at 7:30pm, in Bob Wright Centre, Room A104  University of Victoria. Jun 12, 2013 - Technological Change in 1371: The Remarkable Sundial of Ibn al-Shatir - Roger T. Bailey

Ala Al-Din Abu'l-Hasan Ali Ibn Ibrahim Ibn al-Shatir (1304 – 1375) was an Arab Muslim astronomer, mathematician, engineer and inventor who worked as muwaqqit (religious timekeeper) at the Umayyad Mosque in Damascus, Syria. Ibn al-Shatir conducted extensive observations which led to some of his theoretical contributions, designed and constructed new instruments, and made advanced contributions to Islamic astronomy in the field of Planetary theory
